One of the good things about long-lasting discussion threads is that we sometimes get to let people know that the problem is no longer a problem!
I did re-start Methotrexate, probably about the time I last posted on this thread. Then, lo and behold, after about the 8 weeks or so that Mtx usually takes to do its stuff, the psoriasis started calming down and my hair started growing back. I was particularly delighted by the brand new hair even though it still sticks up & looks funny! I still have stubborn psoriasis on my feet and some on my legs, but otherwise all that remains are the odd spot or two and some gradually fading patches.
With a view to staying on Mtx despite persistently raised ALT, I had a liver scan some weeks ago to take a deeper look at my liver. As luck would have it my ALT started to dip just before the test, which was good. And then the scan showed that I have a tip top liver, which is great. Must mug up on anatomy though. I got up on the table for the scan, unzipped my jeans and started rolling down my underwear. The doctor looked a bit taken aback ... and the penny dropped ... 'Um, so where is my liver then?' Apparently it's right up on the right hand side, news to me!
I really appreciate your good wishes and the endorsement of light therapy. Realistically that could yet come in handy. I completely get how you started to feel about your skin, I think I started to fantasise about similarly desperate measures. I kept being reminded of that phrase: 'he/she seems comfortable in their own skin' and thinking that exactly the opposite was true of me, quite literally.
And how are you doing these days SubliminalFlicker?
