Osteoarthritis and PsA

Lamb posted this link in Dr Marc's discussion about PsA taking up residence in a previously injured joint:

http://www.rad.washington.edu/academics/academic-sections/msk/teaching-materials/online-musculoskeletal-radiology-book/axial-arthritis

The article emphasises that more than one thing may be going on in a joint, especially osteoarthritis secondary to PsA or another form of inflammatory arthritis. I know a lot of us have OA as well PsA and the combination can make diagnosis confusing - which is exactly what the article states. The page entitled 'Appendicular Arthritis' covers the correlation between inflammatory arthritis and OA more thoroughly than anything else I've read. The most relevant sections are those entitled 'The law of Parsimony' which are at the end of both pages.

There is also a clear statement that it can be difficult to distinguish between OA damage and PsA damage on x-rays.

Thanks for posting this.
