Frustrated

I started with a sharp pain on my right elbow that lasted for a month. Then patches started on my scalp and spread throughout different parts of my body except for the common places (the knees and elbows). My middle finger, ring finger and pinkie on my right hand became swollen and could not bend. It was a difficult task to write or type when it all started. Living on a small island we don’t have specialist. So seeing a Rheumatologist is not possible. Doctors gave me what they think will help. Everything got better for a little while when I was referred of island to see a specialist. But now its all coming back and the patches are on my scalp again. The joint pains are now on my right shoulder, on the bottom of my right foot, my left knee, my left butt cheek and left hip. I am only 37 yrs old a mother of 4 and a wife and at times I feel so helpless. Its frustrating when you can’t seek the help you need.

Hi island pain,

sorry you don't have easier access to a rheumatologist as it seems like you need one on speed dial right now. I hope you're able to get yourself to the mainland for some consultation with someone more familiar with PsA.

You aren't helpless--but things certainly aren't convenient right now. My rheumatologist uses a secure medical system to share lab results, keep an updated med list and to send emails. Perhaps this might be an option for you to check in with your rheumatologist (or his/her nurse) from a distance. My rheumatlogist is less than 2 miles away and I still use this service if I have a question or a concern. It was invaluable when I had a flare recently. Best to you as you find a way forward. And warm hugs too if you find them helpful! ~Jane

Hi Jane,

We are planning to relocate somewhere in the mainland so that we can find a specialist. But moving with 4 kids takes a lot of planning. Hopefully we can make it there soon. I am doing everything possible to keep on keeping on. It got to the point where i can't even get in the car because it is so painful. I am hoping that once there i will find a good doctor.

Thank you for the warm hugs it does help. ~ Esther

Hugs, Esther! I'm a 37 year old mom of five and it's tough parenting, taking care of household tasks, etc. with PsA! I hope you're able to find a treatment that works for you soon!
