Flare up...feeling down

Hi all,

I posted back in Januray about feeling bloated lots after eating, I was taking 10mg of methotrexate. Still feel bloated loads, could be to do with the food I guess, maybe I am lactose intolerance? Should go gluten free etc… But it is so hard. I can’t give up coffee! Or bread! :((

If anyone has been to the doctors to test for food intolerances please let me know, how easy this was etc… Can you just get a test if you ask for it?

Also yes, I am having a flare up recently. My doctor increased my medication to 15mg… Not noticing much difference really. My knee has so much fluid in right now, it can get painful and annoying. I have an appointment at the end of the month and she will probably extract the fluid like before. My wrist is painful to the point it is hard to use a pen and sometimes my toes and shoulders hurt. It’s hard to tell people so I just plod along but sometimes I just don’t feel like socialising because it’s not always easy and I feel so down and tired because of my condition.

I still try to go to the gym though and use my knees…cycling is low impact and I heard movement is always good.

But I was wondering does your body get immune to the methrotrexate? Maybe I should stop taking it for a bit? what other drugs are out there and can work well?

Any advice welcome, thanks.

Hi Princesa,
Sorry things aren’t going very well, and the fatigue on top of the pain can make you feel depressed.
Have you talked with your doctor about biologics? I think most people move on to biologics after a trial of methotrexate.
About your stomach issues…I’m not sure, but you could put food intolerance or something about stomach in the search box and see if there are past discussions about that. My dad had celiac disease. I’ve had a lot of stomach problems, so I did a gluten-free diet for six weeks. It sure helped, I was regular and, without being too gross, my BMs were perfect. I thought I was on to something–that maybe I had celiac disease just like my dad. But my doctor did some sort of test and told me it came back negative for celiac disease! This was a few years ago and I haven’t gone gluten-free since.
I hope you get to the bottom of your stomach problems, and your rheumy starts talking to you about biologics.

So hope things improve soon. Are you taking tablet form mtx? You could try and switch to injection as this can help.

Thanks. Since this is have changed tablets. Worries me the doctor tells me they are very strong and that I shouldn’t be on them for long! I’m taking a steroid prednisone and leflunomide once a day. Hate this really as I always forget. I have moved now and trying to see a specialist is a nightmare again unless I pay private l :frowning:
Just worried I am harming my body in other ways and before I have had children…makes me nervous.
