Canadian rheumatologist

Someone on another forum was looking for a Sjogrens specialist, doctor and rheumatologist in Toronto, ON

Now while I’m aware that this is for psoriatic arthritis, I’m hoping that someone can give solid direction for a rheumatologist in the Toronto Ontario area.

Rheumatologists are considered Specialist here in Canada. They need to get a referral from their family doctor or health care professional.

They can’t just get an appointment with a rheumatologists.

Can people ask for a referral to a specific rheumatologist?

I’ve never asked about specific specialist. But I have requested specific area (different city).

My family doctor is in a different city and normally sends me to specialists in that city but since I don’t live there it was becoming a half day off work event each visit.

I do prefer the rheumatologists I had in that city over the one I have now who is trying to push Biological prescriptions which I can’t afford. They cost more per month then I pay for rent.

Out west here in Canada - yes, the meds are expensive but the most I pay is a $136 deductible every January (Rinvoq is $1800/month) - I have to state I cannot afford it (who can ???) and my medical and the specialty pharmacy cover it. I’ve been through several biologics the same way.

Just wanted to mention that JacksonJ.

Absolutely. But if you ask for a very popular rheumatologist, your wait time may be very long. The average doc refers to whoever they can get their patient in to in reasonable time. (Which is unreasonable in most of the country.)
