Anyone else have a low WBC while taking Mtx? I started Mtx in June with a normal WBC. A mint later it was low(3.4). Another 6 weeks later, and still on same initial dose of 10mg Mtx, and its 2.7. Methotrexate being held for a month. Anyone else experience this? Is this a normal side effect?

This is not a typical response to that dose of methotrexate, which is probably why your doc decided to hold it and is probably planning to repeat labs in a months time.

I don’t know if they will be able to continue the MTX after that time as it is likely that you would have the same response. It may be that it is time to move on and either try another DMARD or move on to a biologic drug.

As Grumpy said its not typical, but its not necessarily a huge deal unless you have some irregularities on the rest of the count.

Thanks for the replies. At this time all other blood work was normal. So, I guess I just repeat next month and go from there
