How do I deal with this?

I'm in a horrible state of mind lately. I can't control my anger from this constant pain. From my neck to my ankles. My partner doesn't understand and tells me to stop complaining. I don't want to deal with this anymore. I'm only 19, I'm gonna have this the rest of my life. That's really difficult facing. I'm not sure how to cope with this.

So many of us have btdt. Coming to terms with the life changes brought on by PsA isn't easy. It hasn't been long since your diagnosis, so give yourself some time to get past the anger.

One of the most difficult parts of this disease is not being able to get a break from it or from the pain. If the medications you're taking aren't controlling your pain, you need to contact your doctor and work on that. There are lots of things you can do to help ease pain - from balancing movement and rest to applying heat/cold to affected areas.

It's difficult for others to understand what we're going through. The "Spoon Theory" and Christine Miserandino's pain scale can help a lot. These links (and the links contained in them!) might help...

I hope you find some relief from the pain soon!

Hi there. I suffer from fibromyalgia so am in constant pain and I underestand the stress and anger you feel from the pain. I've really found anti-depressants to help with my pain tolerance in terms of keeping me sane mentally. Prior to taking them, I was either extremely irritable or else feeling in a constant black funk. My doctor gently persuaded me, over time, to take the antidepressants. They really have been a God send. Now I can move past the anger and blackness and just enjoy the good moments.

My doctor also has suggested water therapy for the pain and gentle walks.

Ice also helps with some of my pain.

You're right, it surely isn't fair to have PsA at only 19, and you have every reason in the world to be upset about it. That's what's so great about these forums - they allow us to come and vent, and also to learn, to grow and to form friendships. I hope you do return. I think it will help you to learn to cope with this illness.

Gentle hugs,

Petunia

Thank you so much! Your feedback means a lot

Your comment has made me feel a lot better emotionally, to have someone understand. Thank you!
