Flares and pain

Hello all,

I had a complete rupture of my achilles tendon in 2007. Had surgery to repair it and went thru physical therapy. My leg has never been the same since and recently I have been experiencing pain in my ankle, even feel and hear popping when I rotate it. Having back and leg pain on the same side as well. Going to see my PCP on Monday, see how it goes.

I have also had issues with heel spurs on both feet and used to get cortisone injects to relieve the pain and swelling. Can't do that now, since I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 4 years ago.

I did the frozen bottle trick for at home physical therapy and it worked for me.

Hope you feel better soon.....:)

I also have tendon involvement. Both shoulders have been a problem for the past few months. I thought is was rotator cuff tendonitis as I have had it a few times over the years, but after my rheumy examined them she said it's the actual joints. I also have what feels like bursitis in both hips (sacroiliac joints). I'm not sure at this point there is a part on my body that hasn't been effected(maybe my jaw). I'm currently on my 4th Dmard and if this combo is unsuccessful then we move on to Bio's. Looking forward to better days with less pain and few flares. I also have Osteo in my hands and feet...I'm not sure about the rest of my body as I haven't had very many x-rays and the ones I may have had were many years back.

I sprained my already tender and inflamed left ankle over two months ago, and it still is bothering me. The rheumatologist showed me how loose that joint is, and it will probably never be strong again. It feels like I am not on a good foundation anymore. I have ordered a brace for that ankle and am looking forward to that! A few years ago I had tendonitis in the Achilles tendon on the other foot. After finally getting it into a boot, it stopped hurting (pretty much), but the tendon will never be the same. I still feel how that tendon shrunk and it still hurts some in the night.

Tendonitis seems to come with the territory, just like the books say. I've had it in my chest wall, my feet, my elbows and most lately in my shoulders. Seems like it happens sometimes with an overused joint, like a repetitive injury. They are better now after changing the way I use the laptop, and Nuprin. I feel a rotator cuff problem coming on, so my doc told me an exercise to do with a stretchy band, and I think that will do the trick.

Thanks to biologics and methotrexate I no longer have very many flare ups and not much pain, no more iritis, but lots of fatigue, and tendonitis.

I have a mix of ageing and psoriatic arthritis, I guess.

Oh I am so sorry Bluesky. A rupture is what I was told to try to avoid at all costs, and I see why. I have a little bit of osteoarthritis, probably due to old age, and that is that. I am currently on humira, which is working fine. I was on Enbrel for many years but it finally stopped helping. Are you in the UK? I have heard it's harder to get started on biologics there, although I went through everything there was first.

Hi Taralynn

Sorry to hear that, I know exactly what it feels like. The only thing I could suggest is try to walk it off and hope that you have some aleve, tramadol available to deal with the pain.

I actually started to take sleep aid because of the lost nights sleep, it was bad enough waking up in pain but no sleep just added to it.

Hope you get through the day okay, it will pass and tomorrow you should feel better!

Bluesky, Sorry to hear of your ruptured Achilles tendon and needing surgery. I hope you find some relief from the pain, good luck on Monday!!

I actually can't walk now. I did walk on it yesterday and last night I was in worse pain then the first night...today the pain level is still up there and will be using crutches when moving. Stuck on this small Island and today the doctor is working out of town so no way to get any other meds to help. In order to see a doctor I would have to get on a water taxi or take a 2hr ferry crossing on ship that is not disability friendly. Hopefully the swelling will go down and the pain will subside today...feeling pretty defeated. Calling my rheumy and will leave a message for her to call me back, so we can discuss this flare and current blood work.

So sorry, what a tough spot. Hope the water is not frozen over! hope you can get to the main land and get some much needed help, load up on your meds. Good Luck to you.

Thanks David, just toughing it out. The doctor is back on the Island tomorrow so may see him then. Will totally be stock piling in the future. Living on a small Island surely isn't working out to well. We have the house on the market and are crossing our fingers we will be making a move to a bigger community that will allow for better care and therapy.

Your place sounds beautiful! hope you can make it work. Glad to hear you got what you needed and feel better.

I ran out myself this week , what a mistake! whole body was killing me. I work construction so it made for a tough week but I got what I needed and feel a little better now.

David

Day four and the swelling is not going down....hope to get in and see my doctor...maybe a course of prednisone is needed this time around? My back is now killing do to sitting around, trying not to be on this foot. Feeling frustrated :-(

Looks painful, have you taken methylprednisone pack yet? I did and really improved my symptons, of course it doesn't help if you run out like me lol

Do you have a pain killers to get you through till you see the Doc?

Hi Jenny,

Thanks for the reply. I am in Texas. I ruptured my achilles tendon playing volleyball, after not having played for 10 years...not a smart move. I still do not have full range motion in my right leg since the injury. My right hip and leg have been hurting for the last few weeks....trying to keep a positive attitude and see where this goes.

Just been toughing it out...have Tylenol 3 but it wasn't helping. Taking the celebrex but nothing seems to be working at this point. I see my doctor at 11:45 and am thinking prednisone may be needed. Not sure what a methylprednisone pack is? I'm writing it down though :-)

I’m glad that the doc is going to see you. It looks and sounds like you need some heavier-duty help than you have on hand.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Seenie, started a short course of steroids. Hopefully this helps...my back is getting pretty bad too. Will go back again next week for a follow up...hopefully in the next few days things settle down a bit.

Hi. I am brand new to this site. Undiagnosed symptoms for many years. Plaque psoriasis started at age 6, but the body pain didn't become dramatic until the last two to five years. In the past couple of months, I have been waking up and/or struggling to fall asleep due to pain. I limp down the stairs in the morning, my ankle swells with exercise, and my back is strongly aching by late afternoon fairly consistently. Since my diagnosis yesterday, my pain has been worsening! Is that odd? Could stress be strengthening my flare up? Today, I am having shooting pains in my hip and a throbbing ache in my heel. It's all on the same leg as the knee that has been swollen since last weekend. I hate feeling like I am perceived as a hypochondriac, but this is real. Isn't it?? Maybe it's the limping that's triggering the hip pain? Humira injections start by next week. What can I do in the meantime? Will gentle yoga help or worsen this inflammation? Please advise.

See if you can get some prednisone in the meantime. The Humira will probably kick in. I had relief within two weeks, and I was bad off before I knew why. Try to find a doc that knows a lot about psoriatic arthritis, because you are not being a hypochondriac. A good doctor would understand. I've been told that yoga doesn't hurt anything, but it is not the answer to your problems, the answer is to stop the pain and the degeneration of the joints. If nothing else, I would say to try Nuprin or the generic of it, and stay on it for a while so that the anti-inflammatory benefits kick in. Good luck!
