They work differently for everyone, Humira was more painful for me, but you give the shot less often. It put me into a remission for 2 years after taking shots for 5 months.
Enbrel didn't work for me at all. I think my body has overcome biologic drugs! I think most people try Embrel first, but I would try Humira, its stronger, lasts longer and less shots.
I apologize in that I haven't read every single post, but I wanted to share what my rheumy shared with me. I began Enbrel back in Sept. 2012. After a few months, I could feel and see some relief. But by May, I started going down hill. This Spring, I was desperate and agreed to change biologics, knowing there would be a 3 month lag time between the Enbrel and Humira, and in which I would essentially be without biologic coverage. My rheumy is a young go getter and this is what he told me about which to take at onset:
"I prescribed both Enbrel and Humira to give each company a share in the war against PsA. Over time, however, I've seen a huge difference in the two as far as outcome for PsA" . (He treats every autoimmume and rheumatoid condition known to man).
So this Spring when I wasn't doing so hot, he told me that Humira for PsA is better and worth it to go from Enbrel to Humira even though there'd be a lag time of about 3 months where no biologic would be totally on board. So, that is what I did. I switched because I was so miserable. So I hope this answered a question or two. Dr. Dinning was wanting to be fair in prescribing, but deemed Humira the most effective biologic for PsA. This is a new, fresh dr. who is relying on physical evidence of outcomes and this is what he's seeing. Bless all of you who, like me, are suffering on a daily basis.
