Biologics

I’m on plaquenil with Stelara. Been on the plaquenil for about a month and so far it’s not working PsA. However, I have been going diarrhea everyday since I started!. Doc says it take four months to work, but I am not sure ican stand three more months of diarrhea.

These meds are so funny, not in a laughing way. I take 8 mtx weekly and humira twice a month. It is funny how I react to it. Sometimes I am so tired I cannot make it thru the day I take my meds - I take both on the same day. Then we have days like today that I am wide awake at 2:00am with no sign of going to bed anytime soon. But today was not a humira day - I take that shot twice a month - just a mtx day. I wish I could figure it out. Fortunately for me the meds do not make me sick. I guess I am one of the lucky ones that the combo seems to be working for me right now in some ways. But then again as I think about today, I got up off the couch and promptly fell down, leg was totally numb (not asleep) and gave way. Oh well tomorrow is another day and we will see what it brings.

Sometimes I feel yucky on my med days too. But not always. I have Renicade infusions now and give myself mtx on Saturdays. And yep I am wide awake too! But when I use to inject a bio I would wait 2-3 days to give myself the mtx. It seemed to help. I think both meds on the same day was too much for me. Now if I could just manage to take my mtx in the morning instead of at night......

Thanks Seenie. I will call my provider and see if it's covered. Both my husband and I have coverage, when I started I opted to have coverage even though our family was on my husbands plan. This allows any top up to be covered by either plan. I believe my personal plan is 80%, but will look into it further.

In Canada (unlike the UK and Australia) prescription medications are not covered by the government plan. Many employers provide supplemental health care coverage for prescriptions and services like physiotherapy, massage, counselling, etc. TaraLynn works in the public sector, and she said she has dual coverage, so I'm guessing she will have a drug plan similar to mine (I'm a retired teacher). My plan covers all drugs prescribed by an MD, with no conditions. I do have a 10% co-pay, but this varies from plan to plan. The easiest thing for TaraLynn to do is to call her insurance carrier and ask. I'd be surprised if biologics were handled differently from any other prescription drug.

I had the same issues with plaquenil :-(
