Hey, NGUHope,
Back in the day my parents owned/operated several weightloss locations. By osmosis, I picked-up a few things. There’s no doubt that fruits are a key part of a healthy diet. Acai berries are high in antiocidants but, have no more significance than the three major antioxidant vitamins; beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E found in:
Beta-carotene and other carotenoids: Apricots, asparagus, beets, broccoli, cantaloupe, carrots, corn, green peppers, kale, mangoes, turnip and collard greens, nectarines, peaches, pink grapefruit, pumpkin, squash, spinach, sweet potato, tangerines, tomatoes, and watermelon
Vitamin C: Berries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cantaloupe, cauliflower, grapefruit, honeydew, kale, kiwi, mangoes, nectarines, orange, papaya, red, green or yellow peppers, snow peas, sweet potato, strawberries, and tomatoes
Vitamin E: Broccoli, carrots, chard, mustard and turnip greens, mangoes, nuts, papaya, pumpkin, red peppers, spinach, and sunflower seeds
Other super foods that are rich in antioxidants include:
I have been lazy lately but, I love 100% Whey protein. A shake when I first wake-up, lunch if I'm hungry and a balanced dinner, coupled with light to moderate exercise (mainly cardiovascular) is key. You can find a lot of information about Whey Protein. I like the GNC Gold Standard 100% Whey or the Walmart/Costco/Sam's Whey as long as it is Whey and chocolate.
Also, Whey is not "food". It can replace one meal but, you still have to eat!
How have you been feeling with your diet ?
thank you for this information
Acai (a fad a few years ago) was guranteed to help you lose wieght. I did!!! It was amazing then I weighed just my wallet and realized IT was what lost weight.
Whey protein is the real deal (IF you use it to replace complex carbs)
There are dozens of ways to get antioxidants cheper than Acai.
Hey NGUHope,
I felt GREAT! I say "felt" because before we moved from Santa Cruz I started walking outside a lot and started lifting weights a little. I was drinking Whey shakes for the fast acting protein and muscle recovery. I truely love Whey and I was feeling really good!! Almost like my old-self! Then we moved.waawaa-waaa :O
I think the physical stress put me over the limit. I quit dong everything. I'm at my worst now. I plan on starting again soon but, we just found out we're moving AGAIN in a couple weeks! Although, this time, I'm looking forward to it. Now, I'll have a fresh start after I set my little gym up.
More about the Whey...I don't know what it is about it...It could be the Omega-3 fatty acids, it could be the protien is faster/easier to digest... the exercise, or the combination...I don't know? I do know I had tons more energy after a couple weeks, my inflamation went down, I had a more positive attitude and I was actually feeling healthy and excited again.
Purchased Acai supplement before this post. I should have asked before. I do think its a bit pricy. 3 prescriptions (none for me), probiotic, multi-vitamin and Acai close to $100. Spend more money on meds/supplements/vitamins and doctor visits, then I do on anything else.
Wanted to try Acai for some time not just for weight loss but for the antioxidants it provides. I know we cant eat everything on the lists everyday so why not. These kids are constantly getting sick and im scared out of my mind to stop taking my meds. I really want to get to a place where I can exercise and be active again.
Was also thinking about juicing again. Before diagnosis, I would play a game with the kids asking them what fruits/veggies I put in. They hated that I told them I wouldn’t put carrots in but did and after tasting they loved it. I plan to play some more tricks on them possibly with beets lol… They hate them.
I dont know much about whey, I will do a little research. Is it a drink?
I take Omega 3, 6, 9 vitamin D, a women’s multi and tomorrow i will start Acai. Along with my regular meds, celexa, bentyl, folic acid, medrol, and probiotic these all daily; humira and mtx weekly. I do feel better than i have in a while but still not where i want to be.
Good luck on your move And hope you feel better soon.
Hey NGUHope.
Yes, Whey is a powder. You add water or milk. You can also add oats, fruit, whatever you want to make a smoothy. I just add ice-cold water and drink it up!
I found this a few minutes ago and laughed...what a coincidence
"Glutathione is your body’s most powerful antioxidant and has even been called “the master antioxidant.” It is a tripeptide found inside every single cell in your body. The overall top food for maximizing your glutathione is high quality whey protein"
Whey is fortified in everything from icecream to baby formula...the more I read about it the more intresting it is.
I bought the juice at SamsClub..about $7....and they have some bars, in the supplement aisle, with the berries
i bought them for the anti-oxidants..some yogurts have the berries in them now too
That is interesting, can you take both whey and Acai ? Are there interactions to it ? I have to look it up some. Also, where do you purchase said Whey products ? GNC?
Tk, did you buy Acai juice or whey ? I have a membership at Sams and it right around the corner.
Hi..i just bought the juice at Sams, it's by the milk aisle, refrigerated, by the OJ...bit expensive, maybe $7..i just had a few ounces a day
Hey NGUHope,
I buy mine online from GNC Ebay. It's a little cheaper than the actual GNC store. But, the stuff you get at Sam's is good too. Sometimes they have big jugs at Sam's but, usually they have it in a big resealable bag.
It will seem expensive but, if you look at the servings and calculate how many days it lasts it's actually pretty cheap. For instance; The 5lb jug I use has 75 servings. Cost $50.00. So, it will last 1.5 months and cost less than .70cents a day.
As far as interactions, you should check but, Acai is just a fruit so I doubt there would be a problem.
Thanks for posting the info on whey! I started making whey shakes with strawberries, bananas and ice in a blender for breakfast and I love it. I make it with milk to replace calcium I'm losing with prednisone. Now my Mother is making them also. Good info !

Interesting enough you can buy acai whey powder together. I am definitely going to try this. I will let you know how it works out. Thank you so much for this information.
